News release: 3 Dec 2005, Where we are going |
| So where is Aconcagua?
It's in Argentina, very close to the border with Chile about 32 deg 39
South, 70 deg West. In fact it is only about 100Km from Santiago, the
capital of Chile but we will be operating entirely in Argentina.
10Km or so south of the mountain is the main highway between Chile and
Argentina which means access to the mountain is very easy compared to
Nepal where we had to hire huge helicopters at vast expense and dozens
of porters just to get anywhere near.
All our kit is going to Buenos Aires. As soon as everything is out of
customs and loaded into our two FIAT vans it's a two day drive west to
Mendoza, the provincial capital of the area in which we'll be flying.
Mendoza will be our 'Base Camp' where all our kit will be uncrated and
prepared before we move up to Puente Del Inca to start flying.
