Annex 1.4a to UK Proposals to CIMA 2000
Proposal to establish the notion of "Competition records" in S10 and the creation of a "Competition record" for the PPG Kicking sticks event.
Back to main document
Proposed by Richard Meredith-Hardy, (rmh@flymicro.com)
This is Draft 2, 15 September 2000 (Slight alteration to para. 4.2.1.4)
Note that reference has been made to Parachuting, FAI Section 5 Chapter 3, where competition records are well established.
Proposal 1.4a.1 That the following text be inserted in S10 Chapter 3 as a new sub-section 4
4 COMPETITION RECORDS
4.1 General rules
4.1.1 Competition Records for microlights can only be established during valid scheduled competition tasks at FAI category 1 microlight championships.
4.1.2 Competition records are only valid if a CIMA representative confirms that all conditions of the rules for that record were complied with.
4.1.3 The order of precedence of competition records is World - Continental - National. A World record cannot be set at a Continental championships.
4.2 Types of competition records
4.2.1 PPG PRECISION CIRCUIT IN THE SHORTEST TIME (kicking sticks) (Class R5)
4.2.1.1 The task course is as defined in the current task catalogue.
4.2.1.2 Whilst the pilot is in the course the local wind speed must not have exceeded an average of 10Kt (18 Km/h) nor may the wind direction have varied more than 90° either side of the direction shown in the current task catalogue.
4.2.1.3 The sum of the straight line distance through all sticks 1 - 10 must be 792m (+-10m)
4.2.1.4 A pilot only qualifies for a record if his scoring in the task includes NQ = 10 and no penalties were applied.
4.2.1.5 Pilot performance is expressed as a time in seconds corrected to ambient temperature and pressure according to the following formula:
Where
To = Course time normalised to ISA sea level conditions, in seconds.
T1 = Actual competition course time in seconds
P1 = Actual competition course pressure in mb
t1 = Actual competition course ambient
temperature in degrees Celsius
Notes
1) 4.1.1 / 4.1.2: Because these are the only championships where there are CIMA representatives (Jury and/or Stewards) to verify the validity of the Task.
2) 4.1.3: A difficult principle to explain clearly and concisely....
- In a World championships obviously only the winner of the task can establish a new World record but the best performance from each continental zone could establish a new continental record and the best performance in any team could establish a new national record.
- In a European championships, again, only the winner of the task can possibly establish a new European record but the best performance in any team could establish a new national record.
- The best performance in a continental championships, even if it exceeds the current World record, cannot be declared a World record.
3) 4.2.1.5: See mathematical Rationale: Annex 1.4b and Annex 1.4c, online calculator demonstrating the application.
