PPG PHG Nationals: Pre-event info
Updated 30 Sep 2008

Welcome to the Foot Launched Microlights UK National Championships 2002 information site.

The 2002 PPG and PHG National Championships will be at Alconbury, Huntingdonshire, courtesy of Geoff Soden over the bank holiday weekend of Saturday June 1 to Tuesday June 4 2002. This is the the same location as the 2001 event.

In the event of foul weather, there will be a reserve weekend; dates to be announced.

In these National Championships there will be 2 classes, PPG's and PHG's, in 2 separate competitions under 2 competition Directors.

The final pilot classification in the PPG and PHG classes will be an important indicator for the selection of the British team to compete at the European Championships in Hungary which is to be held on separate dates: PHG's 14 - 21 July and PPG's 11 - 18 August 2002.

Latest news: 12 May 2002
We will be experimenting with GPS flight-recording at this National championships. If you have a GPS, preferably GARMIN, then it would be useful if you could bring it to the championships together with cable and software to load collected data onto a PC, and some means of sealing it so any information it can show is not available to the pilot in flight.

Note that this is for experimental purposes ONLY. It is not compulsory and will not be used as a primary source of proof of pilot achievement, though it could be used as a secondary backup at the discretion of the championship director.

    Competion directors
  • PPG's: Richard Meredith-Hardy. Competition Director of the 2001 World Air Games in Spain & UK Nationals, 2000 UK & Spanish nationals & test WAG championships., 1999 UK National & World Championships in Hungary, 1998 UK Nationals & World Cup in Hungary, 1997 UK nationals & World Air Games in Turkey, Competitor (best UK performance) at the 2000 Europeans in France.
  • PHG's: To be announced.

The entry fee will be £25 for all competing pilots. Any excess over costs will be donated to the BMAA team fund which helps towards the great expense of representing our country in international championships.

All PPG and PHG pilots are invited to come and fly at the event even if they do not wish to compete. There will be no entry fee for this but a donation to team funds would be welcome. There may be some flying restrictions for non-competitors while tasks are taking place.

No membership of any particular national organization is required to compete but for the safety of all concerned, 3rd Party insurance is mandatory.

Competing pilots should come equipped with the 1:50,000 Ordnance survey maps Nos. 142 & 153

A mandatory initial briefing for competing pilots will take place on the airfield at 08:00, 1 June. Pilots should expect to be ready to take off on the first task at 09:00.
