Post-task note:  If you study this task you will notice that it is possible to ‘cheat’ by declaring the order of turnpoints visited differently to the way they did it in actual flight.  Pilots were briefed that this was allowable, firstly, on the basis that if everybody cheated, nobody did, and secondly because the director considered that the risk of a big penalty rose exponentially with a bigger pre-declaration.

PURE NAVIGATION  

Objective

To fly the longest course between the given points within the time window and return to the deck.

Special rules

Pilots must declare the DISTANCE they will fly in advance and hand their declaration to a marshal before takeoff.

Each point may only be visited once. 

Please hand your declaration sheet showing the answer to the question AND the order in which you flew to each turnpoint to a marshal as soon as you land back in the deck. 

 

Scoring

The DISTANCE scored will be the pilot’s actual distance – the difference between declared and actual distance
