TASK 2· This task is as task B5 in the PPG local regulations · Photography not required. · 6 Litres fuel, Fuelling immediately before task. · Briefing: 07.00 · Fuelling 07.30 – 08.30 · Takeoff window opens 08.45 · Takeoff window closes 10.45 · Task closes 13.45 SPEED TRIANGLE AND OUT AND RETURNObjectiveWith limited fuel, to fly around a circuit in the shortest possible time, return to the deck, and then, with the pilots remaining fuel fly in a given direction as far as possible and return to the deck. DescriptionFuel quantity allowed: 6 litres. Part 1: Speed; The pilot take off time is noted (when feet leave the ground). The pilot flies to turnpoint 08 and then to turnpoint 44 and then returns to the airfield and kicks the first of the “4 sticks” .
A small bonus score may be achieved from kicking two more of the ”4 sticks” before departing on part 2
Part 2: Distance; The pilot then flies in the direction of point 46 to a distance of pilot choice, lands, collects evidence as to the precise location, and returns to the deck. Special rules· Land out before completing part 1: Score zero. · Land out before completing part 2 other than at the point of max distance; Score zero for part 2. · The landing point in part 2 MUST be within 2 Km of the line Airfield – point 46. · IMPORTANT: The evidence the pilot collects as his point of greatest distance in part 2 MUST be clearly and unequivocally interpretable onto the official map. It is recommended the pilot gets evidence of a place specifically marked on the map (eg a farm). ScoringPilot score = Where: tp = the pilot’s time, Tmin = The best time (Part 1) dp = the pilot’s distance dMax = the greatest distance (Part 2) Nq = the sticks kicked (25 points for stick 2 & 25 points for stick 3)
The four sticksThere are 4 standard kicking sticks set at the corners of a 50m x 50m square. The pilot must kick 3 of the 4 sticks. The first stick the pilot kicks may be any of the 4 sticks. The third stick the pilot kicks must be diagonally opposite the first, the second stick may be either of the two other sticks. · The pilot may have as many attempts as necessary at striking the first stick. · Only ONE attempt is allowed at kicking both the second and third sticks. On approach to the task, pilots should choose a “free” group of sticks, however if, in the opinion of the marshals on duty a conflict with another aircraft existed (depending on the overall task, for example if there is a timing involved) both should kick only one stick and then depart on the rest of the overall task. Both pilots will then be given the opportunity to have ONE further attempt at this task as soon as possible after the end of the overall task.
Turnpoints for task 2
FUELLING CONTROL
The time, place and volume of fuelling control will be given at the task briefing.
Measuring bottles and tape to seal tanks will be provided and marshals will be available to resolve problems but in principle pilots will control themselves.
Pilots will control themselves in the following order:
In current championship order; pilot in position 1 will control pilot in position 2 and vice versa, 3 = 4, 5 = 6 Etc. If the last one has nobody to control him this will be done by a marshal.
Pilots are reminded that the rules state that machines must completely empty of fuel. Completely means the entire fuel system including fuel tank, fuel lines, filters, primer bulbs and carburettor.
As soon as a machine is fuelled and sealed the machine must be placed in the secure area.
Pilots may not re-enter the secure area without explicit permission unless they are going to remove the machine to the deck to start the task. Penalty: Depends on the circumstances but could include disqualification.
Penalty for not completing fuelling in the time window: 20% task score FOR BOTH PILOTS CONCERNED.
Immediately after landing at the end of the
task the pilot must place his machine in the secure area until it has been
controlled by the pilot who sealed it.
