FLIGHT PLANNING AND NAVIGATION

 

 

AIM :

To follow a given flight path, to identify the maximum number of photographs and groundmarkers.

 

 

PRINCIPAL :

From the Grange Dieu, Levroux air strip, the pilots will fly through the initial point (IP) from where they will have to follow the line until they find a groundmarker on the line. From that point they fly to the start of L2 (TP1). From the entry of L2 (TP1), they follow the line until they find next groundmarkers. From that point they fly to the start of L3 (TP2). From the entry of L3 (TP2), they follow the line until they find the final point (FP)

All along the flight path, the competitors will need to identify a number of photographs on the line given to them by the organisors and mark them on the map upon their return.

After FP, they fly to Grange Dieu, Levroux and proceed downwind round a final groundmarker prior to final approach, and fly very low over the  timing deck. The time will be recorded when the timing gate is passed. The pilot will then land and stop in landing deck.

The pilot must give to a Marshall the completed forms within 15 minutes after landing.

On the sheet of photographs, there will be a dummy photograph located outside the flight path; If this photograph is marked on the form, this will be a penalty.

 

 

Flight time from take off until the exit gate FP  is fixed at  2 hours.

Time is recorded from the starting signal given by the Marshall until passing the final point (FP).

 

PENALTIES :

Overrunning the landing deck at take off :           20% penalty on performance

Overrunning the landing deck at landing:             20% penalty on performance

Outlanding :                                                     0 points for the task

                        Exceeding time limit                   :                       0 points for the task

                        Dummy picture declared :                                   20% penalty on performance

                        If groundmarker is not found :                            40% penalty on performance

                        Failure to skirt final groundmarker                       10% penalty on performance

 

CALCULATION :

                        PERFORMANCE = Number of photographs - Penalties

 

The best performance will be amended to 1000 points and the others pro rated.
