Briefing: 07:30 Monday 14 May · Takeoff window 08:30 – 09:30 Monday 14 May · Task closes: 12:00 Monday 14 May Land
after task closes: Zero score. NAVIGATION / ESTIMATED SPEEDObjectiveTo fly a course between any combination of turn points, markers and gates as defined at the briefing having declared estimated flight times or estimated times of arrival as required at the briefing, and return to the deck. DescriptionThe course consists of a curved track (arc centred on the first “o” of “Conington”, circled on the map) leading from the airfield to the village of Armston. The course then heads directly back to the airfield with the FP (finishing point) in the village of Alconbury Weston. Before takeoff the pilot will declare the speed he will fly along the track. The pilot takes off, and, from takeoff, follows the course at the speed he declared. Somewhere along the course, between the takeoff and the FP, a marshal will take the time the pilot flies overhead. If the pilot had been flying at precisely his declared speed, he would arrive over the marshal at a calculable time. The difference between calculated and actual time will be scored. Also near the course are 11 turnpoints. The pilot should answer the questions, either whilst flying the course, or after reaching the FP but before landing back at the airfield. Special rules- The value of T is 1 second. - For the purposes of calculation, the arc is 20.6 Km long ScoringPilot score = Where, Either: NBp = The number of ground markers and/or turn points a pilot collects in the task NBmax = The maximum number of markers and/or turn points collected in the task AND T = The total difference in between pilot's estimated and actual time for the timed sector. (>=300 = 300)
