Task sheet

Competitors briefing sheet COMPETITION TASK 8

  • Unlimited fuel
  • Takeoff order is not defined but the order to fly the task is in order of REVERSE CURRENT PROVISIONAL SCORES.
  • Briefing: 11:00 Sunday 24 July
  • Takeoff starts when briefed.

Kicking sticks

Objective

To strike a number of targets laid out in a given order in the shortest possible time.

Description

8 targets 2m in height are laid out 50M apart in two arrays. The first array has 4 targets in a straight line, the second array has 4 targets in a slalom.

A further target is placed 50M behind target 10 to serve as a pylon which must be flown round (by the body of the pilot) before target 10 is struck.

Special rules

  • A valid strike on a target is one where the pilot or any part of the PPG has been clearly observed to touch it.
  • To count as a strike, target No. 9, the pylon, must be rounded in a CLOCKWISE direction.
  • A strike on target 1 starts the clock, a strike on target 10 stops the clock.
  • Pilots may have only one attempt at striking each target except for the first and last targets where three attempts at each are permitted. Failure to strike the first or last target: score zero.
  • Any touch of the ground by pilot or PPG while the pilot is in the course: Score zero

Scoring

Q =

Pilot Score =

Where:

NQ = The number of targets struck by the pilot

Sp = The pilot's elapsed time in seconds between striking target 1 and target 10

Takeoff

The course will be in the decks (and possibly partly in the no fly zone as well - depends on wind) This makes it interesting for spectators. Takeoff will therefore be in the area beyond the campsite and pilots may takeoff whenever they wish. They then fly to the briefed "waiting area" (depends on wind) until it is their turn to fly the course.

The order to start the course is REVERSE CURRENT PROVISIONAL SCORES - the current sheet will be marked "Kicking sticks start order" and posted on the PPG HQ not later than 1 hour before the start of the task.

The competition number of the next in order will be displayed before post 1. Pilots may ONLY start the course if it is their number displayed. The number will ONLY be displayed for 90 seconds after the previous pilot has finished the course and is clear from the course. If a pilot fails to arrive at post 1 in his 90 second slot then Penalty 20% score. He must wait until the last person in order has finished the course, and then a new sequence will start of the remaining pilots. If he fails to start the course in his second 90 second slot: Zero score.

With 35 pilots this means the task can be finished in about 2 hours.

When the pilot has finished the course he lands back at the area beyond the campsite - without flying over the campsite or into the no fly zones. (Penalty 20% score).
